Île de Pins

This week has been crazy with Keith’s parents arriving, then arriving two days late and Christmas preparations.Yet when a great deal on a hotel on Île de Pins was brought our way we could not resist!
Since we moved to New Caledonia I have wanted to go to Île de Pins. It’s a short 20 minute flight from Noumea’s Magenta airport to this beautiful island. It’s considered by some to be the most beautiful island in the world. Let me say, it did not disappoint! Saturday afternoon after picking Keith’s parents up we headed for the airport. We checked our bags and waited to board. No metal detectors, bag screening or pat downs here. A boarding pass and your passport and on you go. Twenty minutes later you are landing in paradise. We opted to stay at the Ouré Tera resort but there is also a Meriden and other accommodations. The hotel shuttle picked us up and 10 minutes later we were welcomed at the resort. The resort has bungalows that are beautifully set either on the beach or in a tropical garden. They are so perfect for the setting. They have two restaurants and a bar.
The beach is stunning with turquoise water, reef with amazing fish, kayaks and stand up paddle boards. They had wooden lounge chairs on the beach and at the pool. It was gorgeous!
And then there is the food. The restaurant served some of the best food I have ever had in New Caledonia! Duck, lobster, beef, fresh fish and shrimp. All presented beautifully.
If we had more time we would have most certainly headed to the piscine naturel, but our delays caused us to only really be there one full day and two nights. So we opted to just soak it all in.
It was amazing! Definitely one of the best experiences we have had on the island! I can’t wait to go back!
